Plein Air

   

One of my greatest pleasures is to work directly from nature in the outdoor environment. The challenge of changing light, water and skies, the changing tides and shadows force a level of concentration and focus that is almost meditative.

In the tradition of the French Impressionists and the Group of Seven - using small panels and a portable pochade box, I work in acrylic or oils capturing the essence of the light and place as fast as possible.

I always carry my small sketch book and usually use my phone to take reference photos that may inform my larger works back in the studio. You can shop the small plein air paintings and purchase them unframed - or I have a few framing options available.

I will post pics, videos and stories from my Plein Air adventures in the BLOG and hopefully connect with more of my "tribe" to get out and paint together !
