The final touches to a large panel (large for my plein air work on location)
that was started very quickly with a value study in my favorite Paynes Gray.
The challenge in this one was to replicate that most transient of color on the distant shore mountains.
I keep pushing lighter and more de-saturated on these distant forest hillside colors.
Plein Air study – on site at Tuwanek – Porpoise Bay (near Sechelt BC)
NOTE the compositional sketch on the left side of the sketchbook – this is always my first step for a plein air and I keep it handy to view while setting up the rough outlines on the board/canvas.
