Back in 2012 Brian & I embarked on about 6 weeks roadtrip through California and the Southwest. My recent stay in Newport Beach reminded me of some wonderful creative locations in the south western US that I would like to share. Especially with the upcoming Plein Air Convention in Santa Fe New Mexico this coming May.
Don’t miss JOSHUA TREE National Park. Bring lots of water. Campsite it great – be prepared for cold nights.
Near Las Vegas>St George Utah – SNOW CANYON. Another great campsite – but worth a day-trip detour.
ZION CANYON. Can’t say enough about this place. If you can – arrive / drive into it from the EAST entrance Hwy 9.
MARBLE CANYON and the Vermillion Cliffs Hwy 89A- the start of the Grand Canyon drama. Gotta love rocks.
OAK CANYON hwy 89A . For 20 km north of Sedona to the Oak Canyon Vista. Stop anywhere there is a trail.
and if you will be near SEDONA and have a chance to slow down and stay a few days
Contact Michael L Coleman and his wife Sheri.
They have a stay place especially catering to Plein Air artists, at the foot of Cathedral Rock that will BLOW YOUR MIND !
No Vortex required ;-)
The only appointment that I had to keep on our journey was a painting “workshop” with Michael Chesley Johnson. 3 days meeting up and heading into great locations to paint in and around Sedona. How fortunate I was to connect with Michael. He has now relocated to NEW MEXICO and offers different levels of creative adventures in several locations.
I can’t wait for our next journey – taking in Chelly Canyon, 4 corners, Santa Fe, Taos and more of the Southwest.
