Over the past few years I have been doing outdoor installations and painting on site for public art projects. In 2008-2009 I was awarded the commission for a 10″ x 30″ exterior mural for the Sunshine Coast Regional Museum. The request was for an image that represented the whole history of the entire Sunshine Coast, including First Nations and Natural History. “Time Flies” was the result.
This was a 5 month project with a budget of approx $27,000. I was solely responsible for the design, production and installation of the project.
Several outdoor projects included designs for hand-painted Hydro boxes and utility boxes. The choice of designs was determined through a community call for artitsts, or commissioned by the municipalilty or town. There are now 7 boxes in 4 communities: Gibsons, Sechelt, West Vancouver and the Village of Queen Charlotte. The most recent project in Haida Gwaii was part of a 2 week artist-in-residence that included community workshops and mentoring.
As part of the Olympic cultural program I was invited (by Coast Mountain Tourism) to paint on site at the O-Zone in Richmond for 3 days. Great fun with lots of families and kids enjoying my illustrated natural history coloring sheets and crayons.
