heading up the coast

From Queen Charlotte and Skidegate up the eastern coast to Tlell the road winds along the shoreline. This is the eastern side of Graham Island and faces the shallow and somewhat unpredictable Hecate Straight. Leaving the heavily forested islands and mountains behind – long stretches of rocky tidal shoreline interrupted by outcroppings of ragged black volcanic rock, and stands of windblown conifers. The landscape flattens out and there are small deer everywhere…a doe with 2 really small fawns was making her way across the road, but otherwise they are calmly browsing at the grassy roadsides.
